RUTH Butcher and Kerry Arnold both scored hat-tricks as high-flying Chard ladies beat Weston Super Mare 9-1 in division two of the West Clubs' women's league yesterday.

Chard were on the attack straight from the push-back with the midfield of EJ Auger, Maya Preston, Rachel Ireland-Jones and Hannah McGown linking up well with forwards Butcher and Amy Goss.

And the home opened their account after just three minutes when Preston who pushed through to Goss whose shot was kept out by the keeper only for Butcher to score off the rebound.

Three minutes later Butcher was on target again.

Weston were not put off by the scoreline and attacked strongly, only to be repulsed by the strong Chard defensive unit of player of the match Lou Wrightson, Lorraine Szczepanski, Kayley Gollop and Katy Jones.

The third goal came from a quick break, with Auger deflecting the ball into the goal from a shot by Preston.

Chard continued to press forward and made it 6-0 before the break, Arnold scoring twice and Wrightson one.

Weston started the second half well and only good defending and fine work by goalkeeper Anna Dewick stopped them scoring.

But Butcher got her third and Chard’s seventh after good work from Becky Black and Auger.

Then Augur turned scorer following fine play by Lou Bentley.

Even Dewick could not prevent Weston scoring from a deflection.

But Chard had the final say as Arnold completed her hat-trick.
