CHARD B beat East Devon D 6-2 in South East 3 of the Davis Wood league on Saturday.
Chard, who were experimenting with a new system, found trouble covering all parts of the pitch in the opening exchanges.
But as the game progressed they created some good opportunities.
Adam Veitch was on target for the first two goals as he neatly finished off two good runs.
Those efforts sandwiched an East Devon goal when a deflected penalty corner looped over everyone.
Chard extended their lead with a Duncan Lewis penalty after Murray Wheaton’s goal-bound shot was stopped on the line.
Chard used a number of substitutes which at times disrupted their fluidity but the wise heads of the Chard defence kept them the visitors’ youngsters at bay and created counter-attacking opportunities, Veitch secured his hat-trick when Johnson set him up for a second time.
Then Chard rammed home with advantage with penalty corners by captain Alan Cheffey and Lewis.
East Devon had one last trick up their sleeve as they managed to beat Berge Ballion on the near post at the end of the game.
