Chard faced a strong Civil Service side in the West Clubs women's league yesterday but defended well and comfortably maintained their unbeaten record with a 4-1 away win.
Following good team-work Chard won a short corner. Katy Jones, demonstrating great skill, lifted the ball out of reach of the goal-keeper and into the back of the goal to open the scoring.
The game remained closely-contested but Chard increased their lead to 2-0 when Amy Goss dribbled through the Taunton defence and scored in the corner.
Civil Service began the second half strongly came and soon pulled the score back to 2-1.
But Sarah McDermott acted quickly to intercept a 16 yard hit and took the ball into the D before striking a fine goal to re-establish Chard's two goal advantage.
Play continued end to end with skill and determination from both teams.
Chard scored wrapped up the victory when McDermott finished off a well-worked short corner move.
Player of the match went to Lou Wrightson who demonstrated skill and strength in the centre of the pitch.
