CHARD Town are looking at a very congested end to the season, starting with tomorrow's home match - weather permitting - against Ashton & Backwell in the Toolstation Western League First Division (ko 3pm).

That will be followed by another home match, against Chippenham Park, on Wednesday (March 14, ko 7.45pm).

With 13 matches remaining this season, the chase for a top-10 place in the final standings is just about as tight as it could be.

With Ashton & Backwell down in 19th place and Chippenham Park 13th, victories from both of those home games would be a real boost to Down’s side.

Chard Reserves, meanwhile, are due to visit neighbours Wellington Reserves in Macron Devon & Exeter League Division 1 tomorrow (ko 3pm).

Chard are slap-bang in the middle of the table, seventh out of 13 teams, whereas Wellington are struggling down in 12th spot.

Following that match, Chard have six more games as they look to claim a top-half finish.

THE latest in a run of home games for Ilminster Town sees them entertain fourth-in-the-table Frys Club tomorrow (ko 3pm).

The Blues gained a good point from a 2-2 draw back in August, and they will be hoping to at least equal that result and, ideally, take all three points.

They are currently 15th in the Premier Division of the Somerset County League, third from bottom and just two points ahead of second-bottom Staplegrove.

They have played the fewest games of any team in the division, due to postponements, and are desperate for a victory to help them avoid relegation.

Their last win in the league was a 4-1 triumph at home to fellow strugglers Clutton on October 21.

With 14 league games left to play in a little over 10 weeks, it is going to be a hectic finish to the season.

In Somerset County League Division 1 West, 13th-placed Combe St Nicholas aim to continue to climb the table, as they host basement side Congresbury tomorrow (ko 3pm).

In the Macron Devon & Exeter League, meanwhile, Perry Street & Yonder Hill – fifth in Division 1 – travel to leaders University of Exeter 2nds (ko 3pm).

JUST as the snow killed off last Saturday’s football schedule, so it did the women’s games the following day.

Ilminster Town Ladies were due to travel to South West Women’s Premier Division leaders Buckland Athletic Ladies, only for the weather to intervene.

The Blues currently sit fifth in the standings, albeit having played the most games in the division, which is a fine achievement given they were promoted last season.

They still have nine games remaining this season as they look to secure a top-half finish ahead of the likes of Bishops Lydeard Ladies and Middlezoy Rovers Ladies.

This Sunday they are due to visit ninth-placed Keynsham Town Development (ko 2pm).

In the Somerset County Women’s League, none of Ilminster Town Ladies Reserves, Combe Ladies and Crewkerne Rangers have a scheduled game this weekend.
