Somerset County Premier
Stockwood Green 0, Ilminster Town 0

A POINT apiece always looked the likely result before this match between Stockwood Green and Ilminster Town, writes Andy Fish.

Stockwood started brightly and had a great early chance when their forward headed over from close range.

During the first half, both sides had good periods of possession but lacked quality in the final pass to open up their opponents.

The second period was much the same with both sides cancelling each other out.

Charlie Rutter proved to be a handful all afternoon and, when he challenged the Stockwood keeper, the ball dropped invitingly but nobody was on hand to tap home.

Chris May saved a shot in the last 10 minutes but a draw was a fair result.

On Saturday, it’s Cup action with the Somerset Senior Cup third round tie against Worle.

The match kicks off at 1.45pm.

AEK Boco 1, Ilminster Town Ladies 4

ILMINSTER travelled to AEK Boco for a crucial game on Sunday.

After lots of early pressure, Town broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when Shannon Crouch tucked home Maisie Poole’s cross.

Town started the second half well and got their reward in the 49th minute when the returning Dee Clarke-Trott doubled the lead with a header from a corner.

Town keeper Charlotte Johnson was rarely called upon, but had to be alert to tip a deflected effort wide.

In the 80th minute, Boco set up a nervy finale by halving the deficit after scoring from a rebound, but Crouch settled any anxieties by slotting home Meg Purchase’s fine pass in the closing minutes.

Two minutes later Town won the ball well, and fine play between Colette Martin and Poole ended with the latter finishing well to wrap the game up.

A great performance from back to front, but man of the match went to Meg Purchase for her fine display in the midfield.

Next week sees Town host bottom of the league Downend Flyers in another crucial game (2pm).
