CHARD Town play their final Toolstation Western League Division 1 game of the season tomorrow (Saturday), as they host Warminster Town at Zembard Lane (ko 3pm), writes Colin Dunford.

With Chard looking to avenge a 3-1 defeat at Warminster in August, and the visitors expected to bring a large contingent, a big crowd is expected.

This is the first season in living memory that Chard have suffered no postponements, home or away.

Indeed, they have taken more points at home this season than Adam Fricker’s title-chasers last season.

The Robins are likely to have veteran Stu Parris deputising in goal for the suspended Jon Hill on Saturday.

Last weekend Chard found themselves without a recognised ‘keeper, as with Hill banned neither Parris nor Jake Symes were available.

Teenager Jack Dicker remains a doubt with an eye injury, but Dave Duarte should be available.

Manager Paul Down rated their performance, in a 4-0 defeat at lowly Calne, as their worst of the season.

“It was not helped by the suspension of Hill and no regular ‘keeper to stand in, but no blame on outfield player Pat Golden who put his hand up and did his best,” Down said.

He continued: “We need to finish off the campaign with a lot more determination and positivity, and not let the season fizzle out.”

THE Robins also have a cup final to look forward to, as they take on SW Peninsular Division 1 East side Budleigh Salterton in the Axminster Hospital Cup final.

The match takes place in Axminster on Friday, May 5.

They secured their spot in the final by defeating Alphington 6-1 on Tuesday night.
