CHARD Town play their last Toolstation Western League First Division away match of the season when they visit Calne Town on Saturday (ko 3pm).

Then, the following Saturday (April 29), Chard entertain Warminster Town in their final league fixture.

In between, the Robins play their Axminster Hospital Cup semi-final at home against Alphington on Tuesday April 25 (ko 7.45pm).

The winners will play Budleigh Salterton in the final at Axminster Town FC on Friday May 5.

Calne have had a difficult season and are currently second from bottom without a win in their last nine league and cup games.

Chard won the home fixture in November by 2-1, with goals from Max Westlake and Steve Friend.

Reflecting on Chard’s comeback to earn a point in a thrilling 3-3 Good Friday draw with Wincanton, Down said: “We showed great fighting spirit, capped by a fantastic 35-yard volley from Steve Friend, who was man of the match.

“It was a real treat for the supporters and a very watchable spectacle.”
Down also revealed that Chard were considering an appeal, depending on the referee’s report and charge, in regard to the controversial dismissal of ‘keeper Jon Hill against Devizes.

Chard Town play their Axminster Hospital Cup semi final at home against either Exmouth Town or Alphington next Tuesday (25th) KO 7.45pm.

These two SW Peninsula league sides meet tomorrow (Thursday) to decide who makes the trip to Chard.

Paul Down described the 3-1 reverse on Easter Monday as “a disappointing result in the end, having been well in the game for an hour.

"We missed a great chance to go 2-1 up and a few minutes later, Wellington went down the other end and scored. An own goal for the third Wellington goal settled matters”.

"We have to regroup and finish the season positively with three games in seven days. We should have a full squad, although Jack Dicker is 50/50 with an eye injury”.

ELSEWHERE, Ilminster Town go into their final home match of the season with promotion in their own hands.

They welcome bottom-of-the-table Congresbury on Saturday (ko 3pm) knowing that a win, combined with a Street defeat, would see the Blues promoted.
