AFTER a draw and three defeats it was back to winning ways for the Robins at Zembard Lane last Saturday against Calne Town - though they left it until the 89th minute of normal time to get the decisive goal.

And it was a couple of substitutes who had each been on the field of play for barely a few minutes who were ultimately responsible for the winner.

It was fully deserved, as the hosts had dominated the game throughout. Playing up the incline in the first half Chard's young creative players caused serious problems to the Wiltshire side's defence.

On 17 minutes a Max Westlake run into the box resulted in captain Taoufik Ben Salem lofting the ball towards the top corner, the opposing keeper just managing to tip it over the bar.

It was a surprise that the home supporters had to wait until the 45th minute for a breakthrough. James Boyland got round the Calne defence and pulled the ball back into the path of Westlake who hammered home to give Chard the lead.

It was much of the same after the break. Ben Salem, Boyland and Westlake snapped away at a few chances before Calne equalised against the run of play on 75 minutes. A free-kick on the right found Marcus Lovesey unmarked and he put the ball past Jon Hill from close range.

Paul Down threw on leading goalscorer Steve Friend, recovering from an injury, and he met fellow substitute Matt Howell's high cross to head over the Calne keeper. The visitors finished with 10 men, Josh Legg sent off for bundling over Ben Salem.

Chard - Jon Hill, Pat Golden, Luke Jackson, Shaun Wells-Burr, Kieran Bailey, Jake Dicker (Dave Durate 67 mins), Max Westlake, Bradley Miles (Matt Howell 78 mins), James Boyland, Taoufik Ben Salem, Scott Jakeman (Steve Friend 87 mins).
