PERRY Street moved to the top of the Premier Division table following a 2-1 win at previous weeks leaders Shepton Beauchamp, writes Ian Hallett.

The visitors created the better of the scoring chances in the opening period and their pressure paid off when Dan Collins volleyed home a Darren Contreras corner kick after 15 minutes.

The advantage was extended before the interval when Contreras latched on to a poor clearance and coolly chipped the ball over the keeper and into the net from 30-yards out.

Shepton improved after the break and came close to reducing the arrears on a number of occasions, but they failed to make their superiority count until they were awarded a penalty with eight minutes remaining and Dan Peach scored from the spot.

The home side pushed men forward in the closing minutes in search of a goal that would bring them a share of the spoils, but Street held firm to extend their unbeaten run to three.

Lyme Regis Reserves had been narrowly beaten in a Coronation Cup tie at South Petherton a month prior to Saturday’s league encounter on the same ground.

And the seasiders must have had high hopes of gaining revenge when they gave as good as they got for the opening half hour.

But once Richard Hebditch put Pethy ahead, Lyme appeared to be chasing shadows for the remainder of the game.

Hebditch soon made it 2-0 before Steve Bowker netted a third five minutes before the interval.

Petherton came close to extending their total on a number of occasions, but found Lyme keeper Mark Tozer in sparkling form to deny their attempts.

Ashley Gibson struck goal number four with 16 minutes remaining and it was left to Lee Richards to complete a 5-0 score-line in the closing minutes.

After a run of cup games and postponements, Crewkerne Town’s home fixture against visitors Misterton was only their third league outing in more than two months and not as one-sided as many would have thought.

Jamie Spurdle and Ben Laver were on target for Crewkerne before Sam Tabner gave Missy some hope when his shot bounced over the keeper, but that glimmer of expectation was short-lived as the hosts hit back before the interval with further goals from Adam Dawe and Pete Symes.

Symes added another goal in the second half and Spurdle went on to complete his hat-trick in a 7-1 triumph for Town who have now been beaten only once in their last twenty matches.

Crewkerne boss Ben Cox said: “Results have been going against Misterton recently and they have suffered some heavy defeats, but I was really impressed with the way they stuck to their task. I think they have the ability to turn things around and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”

Adam Male gave basement boys Ilminster Town Colts the lead against Beaminster, but the Dorset side hit back with a Josh Hunter treble and a single from Adam Moss for a 4-1 verdict which leaves the Blues still in search of their first point.

Barrington regained pole position in Division One after completing a league and cup double over Lyme Bantams with a 4-0 win.

Ian Masters opened the scoring for the winners with Mike Towill adding to their total before the turn around.

Masters added a third goal after the break and the victory was completed when Andy Whitefield was on target with a penalty.

Barrington manager Sid Brown was happy with his sides result, but admitted: “This was probably one of our worst performances of the season as we never really got going, but we got the points and that is what matters.”

A 3-2 defeat of visitors Chard United moves Winsham United back into second place and ended a sequence of back-to-back defeats.

The home side controlled the early exchanges and came close to taking the lead in the opening minute when Pat Adams smashed a shot into the side netting from the edge of the area and three minutes later Tom Stead found the same spot from a similar position.

Chard came more into the game as it progressed and Jamie Brown saw his effort go narrowly wide of the post on the half-hour and a long range strike by Tom Newport grazed the left hand upright with three minutes of the half remaining.

Shane Partridge got the home side off the mark in the 49th minute when he ran on to a long clearance by keeper Jake Hardiman and flicked the ball over visitors gloveman Matt Sweet.

But Chard weren’t about to lie down, as moments later a free-kick by Stuart Packer was headed inches over the bar by Kamil Wilk and then Brown drew Hardiman out to the edge of his area before unleashing a powerful drive wide of his outstretched hand to level the scores.

This goal spurred the visitors into action once again and in the 65th minute the impressive Wilk put them ahead.

The lead lasted 12 minutes as Winsham were awarded a corner and when the flag kick was only cleared to the edge of the 18-yard box, Partridge was on hand to slam the ball back into the net.

Winsham’s victory was secured two minutes later, as Sweet could only parry a Stead free-kick and as the ball fell to the ground Partridge was first to react to put it over the line from close-range to complete his hat-trick.

Netherbury moved back into the top half of the table after a 5-3 win at Luso-Chard where Igor Costa (2) and Tiago Casimiro scored for the losers.

Chard Rangers reserves put more distance between themselves and the bottom of Division Four by hitting three goals without reply at Crewkerne Rangers Reserves.

Strikes by Chris Bodycombe, Matt Gaylard and Kevin Cavanagh earned the Chard side their third maximum points of the season.

As the teams in the Daisy Hutchings Cup competition come from Division Two down to Division Four of the league there are often a few upsets.

But in Saturday’s fixtures the only club to put out one from a higher division were Hawkchurch, who beat Beaminster reserves 2-0. Luke Harding gave the Hawks a half time lead and despite having 70% of the play they had to wait until a quarter of an hour from the final whistle before Jamie Harris netted a second goal to see them through to the next round.

Ross Chatwood bagged a consolation goal for Farway reserves who went down 3-1 at Barrington reserves where Johnny Watkins, Luke Woodard and Kyle Oliver hit a goal apiece for the hosts.

Terry Farrell grabbed a hat-trick for the day’s top scorers, Drimpton, who beat Shepton Beauchamp reserves 8-0.

Lee Banks and new signing Murray Legg from near neighbours Beaminster, added two goal each with the total being completed by Craig Lodge.

A strike by player/manager Richard White couldn’t save Winsham United reserves from a 4-1 loss at Waytown Hounds. Jon Legg and James Loveridge hit a brace each for the winners.

Combe A failed to find the net for the fourth time this season as they were dumped out by Crewkerne Town reserves who won 3-0. Tom Broome, Paul Gold and Harry Charles were the Crewkerne marksmen.

Dan Rumsby and Dan Watson scored for Charmouth as they went down by the odd goal in five at home to Crewkerne Rangers. Efforts by Steve Dunkerton, Jack Male and Simon Denslow (penalty) were enough to see the visitors through.
