CREWKERNE Town continued their challenge for the title by hitting six goals without reply against Ilminster Town Reserves. Jamie Spurdle netted twice in the victory which was completed with singles from Adam Dawe, Brad Miles, Pete Symes and an own goal.

Crewkerne's main threat seems to be coming from Lyme Regis who beat Misterton 7-1. Harvey Brimicombe was the Seasiders’ top scorer with three goals, as Joe Bond, Declan Ellis, Mark Bailey and Steve Batey completed their tally. Jason Crabb hit Missy's consolation. Liam Bennett was on target for West & Middle Chinnock who drop to fourth following a 4-1 defeat by Beaminster.

Division 1 leaders South Petherton remain the only undefeated team in the entire league following a 2-2 draw at Barrington. Ashley Smith struck twice for the division’s top team, while Barrington gaining a share of the spoils with goals from Thomas Perry and Adrian Attainbough.

Lyme Regis Reserves beat Netherbury by the odd goal in seven to move to within four points of Petherton with three games in hand. Perry Street Reserves are a further three points adrift but also have three games in hand following a 4-2 win at home to local rivals Forton Rangers.

The hosts took the lead three minutes before the interval thanks to a goal from Callum MacHattie. Dan Collins doubled the advantage soon after the restart, before Dave Harris put Forton back in the game.

Perry Street regained their twogoal cushion in the 65th minute as Dan O’Connor hammered home a superb 20-yard free kick. The best goal came five minutes later, when another free kick, taken by Josh Chadwick curled over Forton keeper Paul Jefferson. The visitors were awarded a penalty for handball in the final minute of the match and John Marsden’s spot kick found its target to complete the scoring.

Division 2 pacesetters Chard United returned to winning ways by hitting three goals without reply at Combe A.

Tom Newport (2) and Bryan Garrett got the goals.

The most likely team to join United in the higher level will be Luso-Chard who beat Crewkerne Town Reserves 9-1.

Davi Rodrigues netted a hat-trick in the rout that was completed by a brace from Renato Silva and singles by Bruno Ferreira, Ruben Rocha, Bruno Andre and Jose Marques. The losers’ solitary consolation was scored by Scott Barry.

A number of teams are still in contention for the Division 3 title, with Lyme Bantams and Drimpton now having a slight edge if they can win their games in hand.

The match between second placed Lyme Bantams and Barrington Reserves, who are third, ended with honours even in a goal-less encounter. Drimpton appear to have got over their lean spell as they gained back-to-back wins for the first time this year by beating Chard Rangers 4-2. Chris Rowswell struck twice for the winners, whose total was completed by Adam Tanner and Paul Richards. Rangers’ goals came from Wayne Luckett and Scott Marshall.

Hawkchurch have an outside chance of claiming a promotion place. Andy Dymond and Jack Larcombe hit three goals each as the Hawks netted eight times without reply at Ilminster Town A to complete the double over their opponents. Luke Harding and Ollie Pearse were the winners other marksmen.

Winsham United Reserves ended a four-match losing run with a narrow 1-0 verdict at Shepton Beauchamp Reserves. Shane Partridge headed the all-important goal five minutes from time.

In Division 4's only match, Combe B returned from Farway with maximum points after a 4-2 win. Mike Usher was on target twice in the triumph. Steve Chadwick also found the net for the visitors whose best strike was by Mark Stoodley who received the ball on the half -ay line and smashed it straight back over the keeper.

l Following defeats in the last two Jack Venn Cup finals, Thorncombe will be hoping to make it third time lucky after beating Crewkerne Rangers 6-2 in this season’s penultimate round.

Alex Clist top scored for the winners by bagging three and joining him on the scoresheet were Liam Male, John Allen and Dan Rodber with a goal apiece. Rangers replied through Steve Carter and Simon Denslow.

The Thorns’ opponents in the May Day Bank Holiday showpiece event at Combe St Nicholas will be Waytown Hounds who beat Dowlish & Donyatt 2- 1. Adam Male was on target for the losers as Hounds went through courtesy of strikes by Ethan Guppy and Tom Rutland.

l Barry Hayne hit two goals for Merriott Dynamos, who beat their landlords Hinton St George 5-0 to book their place in the Kenny Hodges Cup final. Kieran Adams, Dan Anjos and Adam Swinnerton were the other scorers.
