SOMERSET fast bowler Andy Caddick has declared himself fit and is targeting Tuesday’s Championship match at home to Yorkshire to make his first appearance of the season.
The 40-year-old has not played this season after suffering a recurrence of a shoulder problem in a warm-up game.
But he has worked himself back to fitness in 2nd XI, minor counties and club matches and is desperate to return to the side.
He said: “I am now fully fit and I have been back in full training for the last few weeks. I am bowling every day and have been playing cricket for the last two to three weeks.
“I’m raring to go and done everything that I have needed to. My target right now is to play in the championship match against Yorkshire on Tuesday.”
Somerset’s director of cricket Brian Rose confirmed Caddick and fellow paceman Steffan Jones, who has also yet to play this season, will come back into contention.
He said: “We have been playing some pretty intense cricket over the last three weeks and got several pretty important Twenty20 games in the near future.
“We will not be making a decision about the make-up of the team for the championship until over the weekend. However it is likely that both Andy Caddick and Steffan Jones will come into consideration.”
