Specsavers County Championship
Day three
Warwickshire 413 all out
Somerset 94-4

THE first two days of this County Championship clash had seen Somerset frustrated by the weather - day three saw them frustrated by Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott.

The former England batsmen hit 175 off 297 balls (22 fours, three sixes) as the visitors were 413 all out in their first innings at the Cooper Associates County Ground, having started the day on 124-3.

Trott did ride his luck initially, surviving an appeal for a catch behind off Peter Trego, who then dropped him at fourth slip off Craig Overton, who today was named in the England Lions squad to face South Africa A.

Jack Leach did claim two wickets for Somerset, removing the leg stump of Sam Hain (39) and then seeing Tim Ambrose (63) well caught at leg slip by Marcus Trescothick.

But Rikki Clarke (51* off 53 balls) then joined Trott in the middle and helped power Warwickshire to the brink of 400, before Trott was caught by Roelof Van der Merwe off Jamie Overton (his third wicket of the match) just before tea.

Van der Merwe then took over, dismissing Keith Barker, Jeetan Patel and Clarke, before Sunny Singh was run out by Dom Bess to see the visitors' innings end on 413 - scoring them the maximum five batting bonus points.

Both of these teams are yet to pick up a County Championship win so far this season, and that looks unlikely to change going into the fourth day of a rain-hampered match tomorrow.

Somerset have at least secured three bowling points after taking those 10 wickets.

Their batting response did not get off to a great start, with Dean Elgar (11) trapped lbw by Barker and captain Tom Abell (8) bowled by Patel to leave the hosts 46-2.

Trescothick passed 25,000 First Class runs in bringing up Somerset's 50, but James Hildreth went for 14, lbw to Grant Thornton, and Steve Davies for 7 (caught by Hain off Thornton), leaving Trescothick (41*) and Leach (7*) to take the home side to 94-4 at the close.
