TWO Somerset academy youngsters travelled to Sri Lanka yesterday to link up with the England under 19 squad ahead their triangular tournament, which gets under way later this month.

George Bartlett and Ben Green flew on Thursday afternoon and the duo will also be joining up with wicket-keeper Ryan Davies, who signed for Somerset from Kent earlier this autumn.

England will take on hosts Sri Lanka, and India in the series.

Bartlett said: “I am pretty excited looking forward to it.

“I know it will be a long journey but once we get there it will be a great experience to play against Sri Lanka and India in the series.

“I have been to Sri Lanka before so I know a little bit about what sort of conditions to expect, but this is really exciting.

“I think it will be a good contest between bat and ball on the decent pitches that will take a bit of spin as well.”

Green said: “I am very, very excited but also a little bit nervous as well.

“My rehab is going well and I am feeling strong and fit so hopefully I can get out there and carry on with this then get some games in during the tour.

“The first half week we will spend getting acclimatized, then we have a warm up game, a couple more training days and then we play four one day game, two each against India and Sri Lanka and then hopefully we will be in the final.”

During the tour, England under 19s will be based in Colombo and are due to return home on December 23.

The Somerset youngsters will all be hoping for a successful trip to help their bid for selection for the Under 19 World Cup, which is taking place between January 14 and February 14, 2016.
