SOMERSET director of cricket Matthew Maynard has refused to rule out a move to bring former England batsman Kevin Pietersen to Taunton.

The pair worked together during Maynard's stint as England batting coach - and 34-year-old Pietersen is currently without a county after his Surrey contract came to end last year.

In an interview with the Bath Chronicle, Maynard also confirmed that he had approached South Africa star AB de Villiers days before his record-breaking 31-ball century against the West Indies, with a view to a T20 stint - but de Villiers said he is not available.

Somerset are keen to bolster their batting line-up following the departure of Nick Compton and the potentially 'career threatening' injury to Craig Kieswetter - with the recruitment of an overseas signing for the NatWest T20 Blast high on the priority list.
