SEAMER Tim Groenewald is joining Somerset on loan from Derbyshire for the remainder of the season and will be on a permanent contract for three years from next season.

The 30-year-old is a wily and experienced bowler has represented both Warwickshire and Derbyshire since 2006.

Groenewald has played in 89 First Class matches with career best match figures of 8-97 and a highest score of 78 runs.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining Somerset, as it is a club I've held in high regard for many years. I couldn't be happier committing the next three years to the club and I can't wait to get started."

Somerset's Director of Cricket, Dave Nosworthy, said: "Signing a bowler of Tim's quality for the remainder of the season and then for the next three years is great news for the club.

"Tim has been on our 'look out' list for some time and it is fantastic to be able to add him into a talented crop of quality bowlers at the club.

"His experience and performances will add real value to our team and our young bowlers, and I have no doubt that his expertise and professionalism will strengthen the team as a whole."
