CHARD 750 chalked-up their third win of the summer in Division Ten South-East on Saturday with a good 35-run victory over Huish and Langport 3rds in the Best Western Shrubbery Hotel Somerset Cricket League.

The Chard 4ths knocked up an impressive total of 241-9 from their 45 overs with Ross Barrett top scoring with 61, while there were other notable contributions from Alex Cunnold (32), J. Bradford (29), Daniel Fry (26), M. Tinley (31) and an undefeated 23 from Sam Garaway.

Cunnold then became the pick of the Chard 750 bowling attack in reply and closed with 3-15 as Huish were dismissed for 206 in the 44th over.

Frankie Burtschinger and George Best picked-up two wickets apiece as Chard moved to the top of the table.

Ilton 2nds gained an eight-wicket victory over Chilton Polden 2nds in Division Ten South-East when chasing an easy target of just 63.

Ilton vice-captain Mark Pollock won the toss and put Polden into bat. Ilton’s opening bowlers, Andy Knight (1-7) and Keiron Pollock (1-18) bowled a consistent line and length and in the third over with the score 12, Knight had N. Darlington trapped for nine.

Three overs later and Pollock bowled A. Facey for three. After ten overs Polden were 31-2, but a change of bowling saw Neil Every come on and after two maidens he struck in his third over with the wicket of J. Facey for 16 and then took a wicket each over to close with four wickets for just six runs. His brother, Paul Every, also picked up 2-19 as Polden were dismissed for 62 in the 21st over.

In reply, Ilton got off to a stinker when opener Mark Pollock went first battl. That was the only bit of fortune Polden had as Roger Hunt (34) and Dave Dibb (20no) moved the score on to within four runs of victory before Hunt was caught behind.

That left Dibb and Andy Knight to finish the job in the tenth over.

North Perrott 1sts’ dismal start to the 2011 season continued in Division One on Saturday when they fell to a 134-run defeat against Wellington 1sts.

Wellington made 243 all out with M. Downing and P. Szczepanski claiming four wickets apiece for Perrott.

Marshall-James Snr was the highlight of the Perrott innings which saw them dismissed for 136, while chasing Wellington’s target of 254 which had seen opener T. Brooks made an undefeated 107.

Chard A’s good start to the season in Division Six came to an end when they lost by five wickets to Broadway and Horton 1sts.

Chard lost the toss which turned out to be a vital decision with the new ball reacting lively in the conditions.

They opened and lost opener Rory Hellier for a duck. Marcus Veitch went for 20 and Nick Auger followed shortly after for five.

But Simon Durrance steadied the ship with 44 and the ever-dependable Wain Long rebuilt the innings. They both fell near the end and Chard were unable to push on before closing on 145-8.

After tea the Chard bowlers did not get any life out of the pitch and did not bowl well enough to apply enough pressure with H. Dunn (31) and S. Larkam (29) making light work of the total set.

There was a glimmer of hope as wickets fell at regular intervals, but the total was reached by some powerful batting by G. Field (41) to win the game. Hellier was the pick of the Chard A bowlers with 3-38.

Ilminster A suffered a disappointing eight-wicket defeat against Purnells 2nds in Division Seven on Saturday.

The Ilminster side were bowled out for 148 with C. Rutter top scoring with 43, while opener A. Fish added 35 and D. Grinter made 26 not out.
