CHARD Ladies have put in some sterling performances in the latest women’s softball festivals.

After several weeks’ training from SCB coach Shannon Sims, Chard Ladies took to the field for the very first time at Weston CC, winning their opening game against Stanton Drew.

Last weekend, the ladies put in two teams for the festival at Staplegrove.

The opening games saw both teams lose narrowly against more established teams from Weston and hosts Staplegrove.

However, some excellent bowling, including a hat-trick for Rachel Derham, backed up by brilliant catches, notably Phil Evans and Claire Dickenson, saw both teams claim great victories over Taunton Deane and Taunton St Andrew’s.

Confidence has grown with every game, and several players – including Michelle Evans and Amy Turnball – smashed 6s while batting.

Special mention goes to Players of the Tournament Julie Saxby and Claire Dickenson, as well as a bowling award for Emily Rymell and Catch of the Day to Phil Evans.

It was a tremendous day for all those taking part, as Chard Ladies continue to make huge strides in their first season in the game.
