HAVING won the Cup last season for the first time when they beat Cullompton 9-5, Chard retained the trophy in a rather less exciting game on Sunday at Axminster Town's ground.

Nevertheless, both these Toolstation League sides showed commitment and Chard, who had much the better of the first half, played some attractive passing football. The all important goal came two minutes before the break when Alexis Piper was given a through ball only for his effort to be parried by the Elmore keeper. The loose ball was neatly picked by Gary Spiller who tapped it leisurely into the net.
At the start of the second period, the Robins looked likely to add to the score but lost their way a little. Indeed, there were a couple of occasions when Elmore could have capitalised on some slack defending. Having said that there were still opportunities to increase the lead which came to nothing.
Steve Devlin was awarded man of the match.
Team: Scott Wells-Burr, Matt Corrick, George Chlopecki, Leigh Bailey, Mark Scott, Steve Devlin, Jonny Hurford, Alex Paul, Alexis Piper, Andy Whitefield, Gary Spiller. Sub - Danny Cleal (for Spiller, 66 mins)
