DONYATT Bowling Club held its inaugural Open Triples competition on Saturday where eight teams of three battled it out to win the Wakely Cup.
The competition was sponsored by A. J. Wakely and Sons and Paul Whitmore, of the sponsors, was there to wish the teams well.
The event had to be rescheduled due to the previous adverse weather forecast and this saw a reduction in the number of teams, but those who did take part ensured it was a keenly contested tournament.
There were teams from Donyatt, South Petherton, Chard, Yeovil and Crewkerne taking part.
After the initial three rounds, the final was contested by Crewkerne trio Eva Ramsey, John Ramsey and Pat Ramsden and the Yeovil team of Archie Roberts, Jim Larkin and Tony Allen.
And it was the Yeovil team that emerged victorious at the end of an entertaining and hard-fought final.
Tournament organisers would like to thank all the players for competing and A. J. Wakely for its generous sponsorship.
* Donyatt Bowling Club travelled to Exmouth on Sunday for a match against Madeira with the hosts team taking full advantage of their ‘home’ knowledge with a resounding win on all rinks.
