ILMINSTER bowlers have progressed in three national competitions.

The first match was a two wood ladies Over-50s triples in which Ilminster outplayed their opponents from Taunton Deane, winning 25-6 with only 14 of the 18 ends played.

Ilminster’s team was made up of Angie Thompson, Heather Grinter and Maureen Mitchell.

They will now play the winners of the game between Lyn Williams and Diane Routley – both from Taunton Deane – in an attempt to reach the area finals.

The second game saw the Ilminster pair of Dot Whelan and June Checketts beat Betty Marner and Jean Jones of Donyatt 22-9.

On Sunday Will Anderson of Ilminster won his Over-55s singles 21-9 against J Merchant.

Also on Sunday Ilminster entertained the Nomads BC in a three rink friendly.

After an entertaining afternoon Ilminster won on all rinks and by 77-42.

The Nomads are bowlers drawn from the South- West who play matches to raise money for charity. They started in 1997 and now have approximately 100 members.

This year’s president is Fran Hughes whose chosen charity is Bowls and Somerset Sight.

During tea after the match a draw was made and with donations of approximately £50 collected.
