MERRIOTT Short Mat Bowls Club had a busy week with very close results.
On Wednesday they welcomed 13 members from Odcombe for a welcome return match and hopefully a successful outcome for the home team.
Things were not looking too promising by half time as Merriott were nine shots down but after refreshments they were aiming for things to improve. One of the Merriott teams was well in the lead by – 16 shots –but in the end it went ‘down to the wire’ Merriott triumphed 42-41 on the last bowl of the evening.
On Thursday Merriott Canaries were playing The Magpies in the Milford and Dormer League.
The Canaries went into an early lead and held the Magpies to just one shot for four ends. Then the Magpies came back with a hot shot, following it up with a four, as the Canaries lost some focus. Canaries came back and were once again in the lead.
From then on the lead kept changing with the Magpies winning by two shots on the final end with all players agreeing it had been a most interesting and absorbing match.
