ILMINSTER finished their outdoor season in style by winning both the Wessex Mixed Triples league and the South West Somerset Ladies league.
In the last match of the Wessex League Ilminster were at Street knowing that one point would be enough for the title.
This seemed to affect the players as three rinks lost heavily with Dot Whelan’s triples the only winners giving Ilminster the 2 points they needed.
Result: Ilminster 47, Street 77. Scores: Des Maull, Betty Marner and Barry Sims 10, C Frost 24; Val Dargue, Roy Orme and John Osborne 10, J Murphy 22; Dave Wallis, Margaret Evans and Dave Crouch 8, A Whitehead 16; Norma Pugh, Cliff Whelan and Dot Whelan 19, D Marshal 15.
Ilminster ladies won the South West league with a 51-34 defeat of Westlands.
Scores: home: Margaret Evans, Rita Grout, Betty Marner and June Checketts 33, S Graham 18; away: Helen Collins, Norma Pugh, Heather Grinter and Dot Whelan 18, J Wills 16.
