ILMINSTER'S Louis Ridout helped England to a clean sweep in the junior men’s British Isles international series at Llandrindod Wells in Wales.

England made sure of the claiming the title with an 11 shot win against defending champions Wales on Sunday.

Ridout won on each of the three rinks he played and has been rewarded with a senior England trial this weekend.

Ilminster held their outdoor finals on Saturday proving the quality of the green which had been under water on Friday evening after the torrential rain.

There were some very close matches and some very good bowls played in front of enthusiastic members.

SOUTH Petherton travelled to Paulton on Saturday for the away leg of the Hingley-Jones Cup holding a 36 shot lead from the home game.

Paulton, put up a tougher fight, winning two of the four rinks, but South Petherton still won 79-67 on the day and by 48 shots overall.

A SHORT mat team from Chard just failed in a strong comeback at Curry Mallet.

The home team won on all three rinks in the first half to build a 19 point lead.

Things changed after tea as Chard found their form, winning all three rinks themselves, only to lose by five points overall.

CHARDSTOCK won a mixed friendly at Cullompton 72-40.

Sixteen members went to South Petherton BC to play a mixed friendly and came away with a victory by 94 shots to 66.

A further 16 members went to Axminster BC to play the club’s last mixed friendly of the outdoor season, winning 61-57.
