ILMINSTER have bowled their way into the second rounds of three national indoor competitions in the past week.

On Wednesday the Over-60s double rink A Team beat Minehead B 51-28.

On Sunday Ilminster entertained Taunton in the mixed competition for the Egham Trophy, winning by 112-49. Scores: home: Dot Whelan, June Checketts, Rowland Garland and Peter Mattravers 28, B Southward 10; Heather Grinter, Alison Atyeo, Bev Brister and Matt Hamilton 28, D Birch 14. Away: Lyn Williams, Maureen Mitchell, Ian Lightfoot and Jason Miles 16, D Ormishaw 19; Angie Watkins, Penny Stow, Kevin Hamilton and Steve Turner 40, D Buckingham 6.

The previous day Ilminster met Taunton inthe Denny Cup and unfortunately lost 82-77. Scores: home: Rowland Garland, Alan Holt, Bev Brister and Peter Mattravers 20, D Ormishaw 20; Bill Anderson, Kevin Hamilton, Neil Rowe and John Ridout 31, B Southward 9. Away: Ian Lightfoot, Dave Hynard, Jason Miles and Mark Denslow 12, D Birch 28; Gerry Morris, Andy Williams, Matt Hamilton and Steve Turner 14, P Shaw 25. As first round losers Ilminster will now play in the Denny Plate.
