COMBE St Nicholas' quest for promotion from Division Two West of the Errea Somerset County League continued on Saturday with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Creech St Michael at Slades Cross.

Fielding an unchanged side from the previous week they always knew that the visiting team were going to be tough to break down, after sharing the points in their previous encounter.

The home side started brightly, having the majority of the possession, with the only chance of note being when Dan Collins narrowly shooting wide after being put through by Matt Brown.

The remainder of the first half was evenly matched until Collins did get on the score sheet shortly before half time.

A quick throw in from wide found its way to Adam Tovey who sent in dangerous cross that was eventually slotted home by Collins at the second attempt, despite the best efforts of the away keeper.

With half time looming Combe nearly doubled the lead when Scott Wells-Burr narrowly headed over a Gary Warren corner, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

In the second half Creech began to pile pressure on the home side, but the back line were yet again magnificent throughout, reducing them to long range efforts that were easily dealt with by Jason Hutchings.

Combe eventually got their second when a brilliant through ball from evergreen Paul Stoodley was latched onto by Collins, who rounded the keeper and slotted into the empty net.

The win was marred when two Creech players received their marching orders.
