DESPITE a slump in the middle of a good round, Phil Nicholls, the Seniors’ Captain at Vivary Golf Club, won round eight of the Eclectic Shield on countback from Dave Thomas.

Both scored a 64 with Colin Woodford third on 65.

Countback again separated the first and second in the August medal where Fred Chapman and Bob Stock came in with 61 each.

Chapman took the honours and Barry Hembrow, with 62, came third.

The back nine rule was once more invoked to separate the first three in the Autumn Stableford when three players finished on 40 points.

John Fisher placed first with Peter Bond second and Dai Lloyd third.

The August Cup was more straightforward. Steve Berry won with 41, Nigel Griffin was second with 40 and third on 39 was Keith Parker.

Countback emerged again in the Alf Brasher Stableford placing Colin Woodford first and Pete Jeffery second when both accumulated 40; Mike Manning was third on 39.

The seniors’ outing to Long Sutton golf course proved a fine day visit with a good meal but no sensational scores.

It was a day of the Daves - Dave Willis won with 32, while Dave Beale was second on 31 and Dave Stowell third on 30.  Rod, not Dave, Hobson won nearest the pin on the 17th.
