NORTH Perrott Cricket Club are two wins from Lord’s, having made it through to the quarter-finals of the National Village Cup by beating Marshfield CC on Sunday.

Hosts Perrott won the toss and elected to bat first, only to fall to 24-2 with both openers gone.

However, 29 from 15-year-old Jamie Baird, 29 from Lewis Hunt and a top score of 58 from captain Jake Symes took them to 188-9 off their 40 overs, with Jeremy Bond taking 3-30 off eight overs for Marshfield.

Bond’s bowling performance was surpassed by Hunt, though, as he delivered a ‘man of the match’ display by tearing out Marshfield’s top order, ending with 4-45 off eight.

Still, at 90-4, the visitors still looked well placed – but that all changed when 16-year-old Max Dicker took three wickets in an over.

David Jenkins (54) and Tom Clist (18) moved their side onto 144-7, at which point Jenkins was run out, Symes with the direct hit.

Stacy Hawes (2-28 off 7.4) ended matters, clean bowling the last two batters, to secure a 21-run win.

George Retter ended the innings with an impressive 0-10 off eight overs.

Now Perrott host Liphook & Ripsley CC, from Hampshire, on Sunday, July 22, with a place in the semi-final at stake.

This is the first time that either club has made it this far in the competition.

ILMINSTER 2nds’ hopes of catching runaway leaders Trull look all but over, as they lost at home to their rivals in Division 3 of the Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League on Saturday.

Put in to bat, Ilminster reached 201-8 from their 45 overs, with decent scores from T. Towill (37), Josh House (35) and A. Sims (30).

Andy Sapey took 3-30 for Trull, who chased down the Ilminster total to win by five wickets, Keith Ford unbeaten on 71.

House took 3-51 for the home side.

Two struggling sides – Broadway & Horton and Chard 2nds – both picked up wins.

Broadway put visitors Watchet in to bat, and they made 203-7, with Jamie Milton hitting 66, while Russell Hilton took 3-25 for the home side.

The reply was fuelled by an unbeaten 96 from fifth man in Andrew Mason, as Broadway got to 204-8 in the 38th over.

Chard, meanwhile, were one-wicket winners over Huish & Langport.

Huish staggered to 185 all out, Will Godsafe’s 35 their top score, as Andrew Sochon, Andrew Clancy and Fraser Lewis all claimed two wickets for the hosts.

After a good start, Chard suffered a middle-order wobble, though Andrew Clancy (36) remained solid.

He fell at 151-9, but final-wicket pair John Hendy (18no) and Emmanuel Shazad (11no) saw Chard home.

North Perrott 2nds lost out to Division 4 leaders Uphill Castle 2nds, the visitors winning the top-of-the-table clash by six wickets.

Perrott posted a challenging 228-7, with Josh Giddings hitting 79, but G. Lloyd’s 100no inspired Uphill to chase it down – despite Sam Rowswell’s 2-46.

Barrington closed in on mid-table rivals Ilton with a 98-run over relegation candidates South Petherton.

Trevor Pitman hit 40 and Alex Pitman 32 to help their side end on 213-8, Adam Young taking 3-47 for the visitors.

Dorian Jones (4-33) then ran through the away side, Harry Young (24) and Adam Young (26) contributing most to their 115 all out.

Ilton were beaten by nine wickets away to Kilmington & Stourton, as they were all out for 73 inside 19 overs.

Rich Gower (33) and Max Davies (22), but five of their collegues were out for ducks, as Ben Standfield (4-9) and Jason Lapham (3-2) went wild.

Tom Wakeling then hit 31no as victory was secured within 10 overs.

Crewkerne had the day off, as did Crewkerne 2nds in Division 7S, but Broadway & Horton 2nds did play in the latter division.

They put on a good score, too, as Phil Andrews (50) and Andy Knight (78no) fired them to 201-5 away to Wellington 3rds – for whom Somerset CCC director of cricket Andy Hurry took 2-21.

Hurry then dominated the reply with an unbeaten 98 as the hosts reached 205-6; Knight, Rhodri Andrews and Steve Driskel took two wickets apiece for Broadway.

In Division 8S, only two matches were played, but table-topping Ilminster 3rds made hay with a seven-wicket win at home to Castle Cary 2nds.

No visiting batter made it past 20 runs – Extras top scoring with 30 – as S. Horne (3-30), Riley Millett (3-10) and Rob Barker (2-14) dismissed them for 119.

Ilminster made somewhat hard work of reaching that total, but did so in 35 overs, as Trevor Goss (59no) got the job done.

Chard 3rds, meanwhile, picked up only their second win of the season, by 96 runs away to Ilton 2nds.

Phil Tolley hit 83 and Danny Grabham 63 as they posted 284-6, Christian Hignett with 2-34 for Ilton.

Hignet then made 42 and Richard Lock 52, but James Driscoll, Ben Rymell and Jonathan Wood’s two wickets apiece dismissed Ilton for 188.
