AS I write this [on Tuesday] we are travelling up to Guildford to take on Surrey.

There is a great atmosphere on the coach as we make our way along the motorway and why not as we currently sit top of the table.

The win over Notts that took us to the summit was a very special one.

That was a match that had absolutely everything and it showed that four-day cricket is alive and well.

Matt Renshaw was once again outstanding and his century in the first innings set the foundations for our performance.

It was great to have Tom Abell back in the team and his 57 was absolutely vital in that first innings as we were starting to wobble.

From a personal point of view, I was really pleased to have been able to contribute with the bat.

We were pretty pleased with a total of 392 and were absolutely delighted to have bowled them out for 134.

The bowling unit was superb and Craig Overton in particular was unplayable at times.

He really did show what he is capable of and certainly gave the England selectors something to think about.

After being forced to follow-on Notts really dug in to make over 500 but we felt that we could have skittled them for less than that.

I lost count of how many times we beat the outside edge and Roelof van der Merwe can consider himself particularly unlucky not to have claimed a five-for.

Chasing 250 to win, Matt again got us on the way and George Bartlett also played really well.

To be there at the end with Tom as we knocked the runs off was a special feeling and the mood in the dressing room afterwards was one of the best I’ve experienced.

We are in confident mood ahead of the Surrey match, but we know just how tough it will be against a very good side.

Hopefully we can still be at the top of the table when we make the trip home.
