CHARD Road Runners were in action in Somerset for the Glastonbury 10k and Dorset for the North Dorset Villages Marathon.
First, with an early start, was Lizzie Smith who had set a goal this year to run a marathon.
The 8.30am start helped with no time for the nerves to build.
Setting off at a steady pace, Smith headed out along the quiet Dorset roads and was joined by other first-time marathoners who all stuck together to support each other.
Smith dug deep to keep focused, and following a final sprint, she crossed the line in a time of 6h 59m 46s – an amazing first marathon in the bag for her.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Lizzie Smith after the marathon
The next start line was at Glastonbury for the 10k road race around some of the steeper lanes and the iconic Tor.
Taking part for CRRs were Wayne Loveridge, Mike James Musselwhite and Claire Gibbs.
Loveridge set a blistering pace, with Egan hot on his heels, and had progressed up to seventh in the top class field.
Loveridge crossed the line in sixth place out of 505, in a time of 35m 20s.
Egan came home in 46m 52s (77th), Musselwhite in 54m 55s (221) and, having stuck firmly to plan, Gibbs broke through the 1h 10m barrier by crossing in 1h 7m 44s (421st).
