Toolstation Western League
First Division
Welton Rovers 0, Chard Town 1
CHARD Town moved up to eighth place in the First Division by winning at seventh-placed Welton Rovers, only the second time in 25 years they had done so.
The hosts dominated the first half in terms of possession and winning set-pieces, but there were few real opportunities and the sides went in for the interval tied together at 0-0.
The only goal of the game came in the 85th minute, when a quick free-kick in midfield led to James Boyland cutting in from the left past two defenders and finishing with aplomb across Welton 'keeper Drewitt, inside the far post.
Chard Town: Hill, Duarte, Pearson, Haines, Bailey, Westlake, Dicker, Howell (R Parris 75), Cleal, Boyland, Ben Salem.
Chard manager Paul Down said: "It was a good team performance, the key word being team, because we worked hard all over the pitch and were very organised in defence, limiting Welton to few chances.
"It was a fine finish from James Boyland."
Their next match is this Saturday (ko 3pm), at home to Oldland Abbotonians, who are ninth in the table and only one point behind Chard.
