Somerset County Premier
Middlezoy Rovers 0, Ilminster Town 0

ILMINSTER Town made the short trip to fourth in the table Middlezoy Rovers on the back of a decent run of results and performances, writes Andy Fish.

It was the Blues who made the better start and they stopped the home team getting any rhythm.

Middlezoy did look dangerous on the attack when Ilminster couldn’t clear their lines, and threatened without any real clear-cut chances.

Ilminster used their height to their advantage and both Charlie Rutter and Jon May won headers from set-pieces but could not hit the target.

The second half was played at the same intensity, with Zoy adopting a more physical approach.

As the game became more end-to-end, Jack Male and Charlie Rutter both had good chances, just missing the target when well placed.

The home side pushed for the winner in the last five minutes and won a succession of free-kicks in dangerous areas but, with the ever-impressive keeper Chris May on top of his game, Ilminster stood strong and won a deserving point.

The league is very tight this season, as only six points separate all but the top six.

Ilminster - Chris May, Luke Paul, Karl Davies, Adam Male, Jon May, Brad Pitman, Jack Male, Tom Sullivan, Ben Pitman, Taylor Jefferson, Charlie Rutter. Sub (used) - Andre Anjos.

On Saturday, Ilminster entertain Clutton at The Archie Gooch Pavillion (ko 3pm).
