West Clubs Women’s League
Sedgemoor Division 2
Bridgwater 2nd XI 0, Chard 1st XI 2
CHARD Ladies 1st XI travelled to Bridgwater on Saturday for their first match of the new season.
With fresh faces in Jess Withers, Charlotte Mooney and Tess Down joining the side, the girls knew they had to familiarise themselves as a team.
Chard attacked from the off, with strikers Lyndsay Blackshaw and Charlotte Mooney bombarding the Bridgwater keeper.
Unfortunately for the visitors, they were better at finding the keeper’s pads than the backboard, as they failed to make a dent in the scoreline in the first half.
After the restart, Chard’s players seemed to struggle to stay on their feet, but this benefited midfielder Rachel Ireland-Jones, who managed to score across goal while also falling over.
Blackshaw quickly added a second for Chard, after some nice passing in the Bridgwater D.
The hosts pushed for a goal to get back into it, with several attacks in the closing stages of the game, but Chard’s defence remained strong, with beautiful tackles from Down and Mischa Taylor, who were later awarded Joint Ladies of the Match.
Thanks to match sponsor J B Wheaton & Son.
Chard are next in action on September 30, at home to Taw Valley 2nds.
