Toolstation Western League
First Division
Chard Town 4, Westbury United 2 (match abandoned on 90 mins)

THIS game finished most unsatisfactorily for Chard, who had spent the bulk of the game dominating the unbeaten league leaders, only for the referee to abandon the game on 90 minutes with four minutes of added time to play.

Rain began to fall just after half time and in the final minutes it became torrential, leaving large areas of the playing area with standing water.

However, up to that moment the Robins' performance was a revelation, following the previous defeat by Welton.

Chard wasted no time in grabbing the lead, in just the second minute, when Andrew Holmes headed in Liam Cleal's corner kick.

The home side then increased their lead on 18 minutes, when a Max Westlake volley went into the corner of the net off the Westbury keeper.

An entertaining contest developed and the Robins went on to add a third goal after 35 minutes.

It was their most impressive goal of the day, with an excellent cross from Westlake headed on by Alex Stafie to James Boyland, who turned his man and fired home.

Westbury introduced more firepower up front after the break, but within four minutes of the restart the home side had increased their lead further, as Stafie's long cross to Taoufik Ben-Salem was headed in by the captain off the upright.

Chard then missed a penalty for a trip in the box, but the visitors crept back into the game as the rain began to fall.

The arrears were reduced by substitute Josh Ferguson after 68 minutes, and then Ricky Hulbert made it 4-2 on 86 minutes, before proceedings were brought to a premature end.
