HOLYROOD Academy’s boys cricketers have become district champions at both Under-15 and Under-13 level this month.
Chard Cricket Club hosted the Under-15 final between Holyrood and Huish Episcopi, both teams unbeaten in the league.
Holyrood were put in to bat, and openers Seb Horne and Dean Harding got the boys off to the perfect start, both retiring on 23 not out.
Joel Smith and captain Ryan Lewis stayed in for the remaining overs, before Smith was caught for eight, and Holyrood finished on 67 from their seven overs.
Huish began well, but Manny Shahzad took a crucial wicket and then a catch off the bowling of Lewis to secure a thrilling victory.
The week before, Holyrood’s Under-13s travelled to Langport CC, where they again faced Huish Episcopi in the area final.
Harvey Evans’ bowling (1-0-3-2) helped reduce Huish to 15-3 off three overs, but despite a couple of fine catches from Alec Evans, Huish ended with 51.
Holyrood made a flying start with 14 off the first over, and Willis, Evans and Yousiah Shahzad saw them win with three balls left.
VICTORY: Holyrood Academy's Under-13 boys cricketers.
Miss Sims, Holyrood’s head of cricket, said: “I knew the boys would do well if they all played to their potential.
“I’m very proud – well done boys!”
