Specsavers County Championship - day two (close)

Yorkshire 159-7 v Somerset 268

CRAIG Overton was the standout performer on day two of Somerset's County Championship match at Yorkshire in Scarborough, completing his five-wicket haul before rain forced a premature end to play.

Yorkshire resumed on 42-3, a total they took to 71 before Overton collected his first scalp of the day - and third of the innings - as Harry Brook edged to Marcus Trescothick at second slip to depart for 31.

The hosts then survived some testing deliveries as Somerset continued to turn the screw, and the pressure eventually told when Tom Kohler-Cadmore played on to his own stumps on 31 to give Tim Groenewald his second wicket.

From then on it was the Overton show, as the 23-year-old dismissed Tim Bresnan with one which swung late and found the edge on its way to Jim Allenby at first slip before trapping Andrew Hodd lbw to seal his third First Class five-fer.

Spinner Jack Leach is yet to bowl in the Yorkshire innings, with the Scarborough wicket appearing more suited to pace and bounce which has made life difficult for batsmen.

Somerset enter day three with a lead of 109 runs, and will be hoping for a full day's play tomorrow as they search for that elusive first Championship victory of the season.

Adil Rashid is unbeaten on 30 overnight, with Liam Plunkett to resume on day three on 5 not out.
