SOMERSET director of cricket Matt Maynard hopes for a pick-me-up in today's Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final against Nottinghamshire at the Cooper Associates County Ground (11am start).

His side suffered a heart-breaking three-run defeat to Yorkshire yesterday, but have a very quick turnaround for today's match.

Maynard said: “We’ll have a proper debrief when the emotions have quietened down and the lads are speaking again, but we need to refocus on [the quarter-final].

"[Picking the team up is] part of my job – and we’ll have a lot of energy coming into the team from people who’ve missed this fixture."

Maynard confirmed a 14-man squad for the Nottinghamshire fixture:
Jim Allenby (c), Johann Myburgh, Steve Davies (wk), Peter Trego, Dean Elgar, James Hildreth, Adam Hose, Roelof van der Merwe, Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton, Josh Davey, Jamie Overton, Tim Groenewald, Max Waller.

On his selection, Maynard said: "It was a really promising [County Championship] debut from Adam Hose [against Yorkshire].

“In the last couple of [one-day] games, Johann Myburgh came into the side at the top of the order and played really well, he’s that kind of dashing player.

“It’ll be a fresh wicket so I think the full seamer approach, and one spinner, will be the way we go."

With Nottinghamshire boasting the likes of Stuart Broad and James Pattinson in their squad, Maynard was asked if Somerset are underdogs.

He replied: "Maybe that’s what the media might think because they’ve got more international players than us, but when we play well we’re a very tough side to beat as we’ve shown over the past two years in the One-Day Cup.

"We aim to play well in front of our home supporters and give them something to cheer."

The winners of this match will travel to Chelmsford to face Essex in the semi-final this Friday (June 16).
