ILMINSTER Rifle Club have won several competitions over the past few months, with the help of their youngest member.

Katie Watford, who hails from Langport, is going from strength to strength in the sport of Small-Bore Prone Rifle Shooting.

Having just had her 15th birthday, she has become the Somerset Junior Champion, Gloucester Junior Champion and the Wiltshire Junior Champion.

She also competed in the Isle Of Man Shooting Festival 2017, performing superbly to win three gold medals and one silver against top adult shooters.

Last week, competing at Bisley in the 2017 England Small-Bore Shooting Championships, Katie became the British Women’s Under-21 prone 50 metre champion.

At the same event she finished fourth overall in the women’s 50 metre, which is some achievement.

Katie has only been shooting for two years but aspires to represent Great Britain at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, and is now progressing to 3P (standing, kneeling and prone).

She trains three or four times a week and has competitions most weekends, which her Grandad faithfully drives her around the country to attend!

Katie will need a new rifle very soon, and along with Ilminster Rifle Club is looking for sponsorship.
