HAVING taken up running, there are many goals each will aspire to complete.

For Chard Road Runner Bernie Genge in 2007 it was to complete a marathon which was achieved, then to run a marathon in under three hours - again this was achieved.

With each goal set, Bernie was up to succeed as with most it is training but to gain access to the 100 marathon club, this takes on a whole new challenge.

With Taunton Marathon being his local race, the organisers were proud that Bernie chose this to be his 100th marathon providing him with race number 100 as a mark of respect for this achievement of running in excess of 2,600 miles while making this achievement.

To mark this special occasion, a gathering of 100 runners and friends was held at the local village hall where Bernie was presented with his 100 marathon club shirt by representative Howard Bailey.

Bernie will not be stopping at this goal and already has plans to undertake 50-mile and 100-mile ultra marathons over the next few months.
