SOMERSET head into day three of their LVCC County Championship Division One clash with Nottinghamshire at Taunton with their backs against the wall, after an all too familiar batting collapse saw the visitors take control of the match on day two.

Somerset were bowled out for 200 in reply to Notts' 410 - thanks mainly to an unbeaten 76 from Tom Abell.

The youngster played with grit and determination amid a flurry of wickets at the other end, before eventually being left high and dry on 76 - as Notts' Matthew Carter took 7-56 on debut.

The visitors closed on 89-4 - a lead of 299 - with Riki Wessels unbeaten on 29.

Earlier, Alfonso Thomas had claimed the 25th first-class five-wicket haul of his career to end the Notts' first innings, before Somerset collapsed from 112-3 to 200 all out.
