ILMINSTER Town will be looking for revenge for a defeat earlier in the season when they entertain second-placed Fry Club in the premier division of the Somerset county league on Saturday.

Manager Darren Manley said: “I felt we were a bit unlucky when we lost 2-0 at their place.

“We could have been two or three goals up by half time and quite comfortable.

“But to be fair they are a good side and we will just be looking to play with the right attitude and see what positives we can get from the game.”

Ilminster claimed another vital point in their fight against relegation last Wednesday when they drew 1-1 away to Bridgwater Town reserves with a highly-disciplined performance against young but talented opposition.

Bridgwater dominated much of the possession but struggled to break down the Blues’ well-organised defence.

The opening 20 minutes of the game was closely-fought. Carl Lazenby was foiled in an early one-on-one with the Bridgwater goalkeeper while 16-year-old Nash Eastwood pulled a finger-tip save from Ilminster goalkeeper Josh Lee.

Then mid-way through the half an attempted cross was deflected high across the goalmouth and Charlie Rutter was first to react to poke the ball home.

Lee was required to pull off another good save before the interval but the Blues reach half time with their noses in front.

In the second period Bridgwater enjoyed much of the possession without unduly stretching their hosts.

And it was not until the 90th minute that Ilminster saw the three points grabbed from their grasp when substitute Kenzie Farnham beat his defender and hit a magnificent curling strike across Lee and into the far corner.

Manley said: “Bridg-water had most of the ball but didn’t really move it fast enough.

“We battled well, kept our shape, and weren’t really in too much trouble.

“It was going to take something a bit special to break us down.

“If we continue to play like that we’ll keep picking up the points to stay up.”
