NORMAN Markby led teams to victory in two different competitions held by Cricket St Thomas Seniors.
Benign conditions on Monday attracted 39 members to a 15 hole Bowmaker competition.
The in-form Markby and team-mates Des Denning and John Pearce edged out the trio led by Nick Hill by virtue of a better back nine after both teams returned 69. One shot behind them were Frank Martin’s team.
Result: 1 Norman Markby, Des Denning & John Pearce 69pts; 2 Nick Hill, Ian Fielder & Bill Hilson 69pts; 3 Frank Martin, Keith Potter & Keith Branchflower 68pts.
After the golf, the Seniors sat down to enjoy a traditional Burns Day lunch when the haggis was piped in by Captain John McOmish who the gave a rendering of the bard’s poetry.
The subsequent raffle raised £76 towards the Captain’s charity, ‘Meningitis Now’.
A total of 24 Seniors entered the three man yellow ball Stableford on Wednesday.
The damp weather made for some difficult conditions, and in a low scoring game, only two points separated the first three teams.
Once again, Norman Markby stole the show by leading his team to victory, returning a score of 105 points. This was enough to beat the next two teams who both registered scores of 103.
Result: 1 Norman Markby, Maurice Arnold & Bryan Frost 105 pts; 2 Bim Morfitt, Barrie Heath & Geoff Dean 103pts; 3 Roger Stone, Bob White & Alan Chance 103pts.
Wintery conditions on Friday attracted a disappointing entry to the January qualifying medal competition.
Five members represented Division 1 and 12 members represented Division 2. Mike King won the Division 1 competition with a one shot advantage over Bert Robinson.
In Division 2, Keith Branchflower ran away with the event returning a nett 4 under par round of 66 for a lead of four shots over Bill Hilson.
Result: Division 1 – 1 Mike King 70, 2 Bert Robinson 71. Division 2 – 1 Keith Branchflower 66, 2 Bill Hilson 70.
