TAUNTON are preparing to host their Super Saturday Meeting this tomorrow which is expected to be an extra special event on the local racing calendar.

This is only the third time ever that the Orchard Portman course has hosted Saturday racing and everybody is looking forward to it, including Bob Young the Chief Executive.

He said: “On the first occasion we were due to host a Saturday meeting it was abandoned due to snow the previous day and last year it was a miserable, wet day.

“So we are hoping this year that the weather is better and that lots of people who are unable to join us in the week come along and enjoy what promises to be another great day of racing action.”

The six race Super Saturday card, sponsored by Bathwick Tyres, which includes three Class 3 events, has a very attractive £54,000 up for grabs in prize money.

The action on the course gets going at 1.05pm with a European Breeders Fund Novices’ Hurdle over two miles, three and a half furlongs.

The big race of the day is the Bathwick Tyres Novices’ Limited Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 3) over two miles and half a furlong which has a prize pot of £13,000 and goes to post at 3.25pm.

The afternoon concludes at 4pm with the longest race of the day, the Bathwick Tyres Bridgwater (Class 3) Handicap Hurdle run over three miles and half a furlong, which carries prize money of £10,000.

Punters are reminded that if they buy tickets in advance on line at www.tauntonracecourse.co.uk before 10am the day prior to racing they can take advantage of substantial discounts.
