BARRINGTON lifted the Perry Street league’s Division 1 Cup with a 3-1 defeat of Netherbury in the final at Misterton’s Unity Lane ground on Saturday.

Barrington began in impressive form and were unlucky to have a goal ruled out by referee Chris Emmerson after just 13 minutes. Sam Spurway was the unlucky player as he was adjudged to have pushed a defender while heading home a flick-on by James Thompson.

However, Thomas Perry gave Barrington the lead three minutes later, turning home a cross and planting it in the bottom corner. Andy Whitefield made it 2-0 from the penalty spot 14 minutes later when Perry was brought down, having cleverly side-stepped his marker.

Netherbury were determined to turn the tide after the break, giving Barrington plenty to think about. And they were rewarded on the hour mark when Symes’ strike at goal was handled by a defender and Netherbury skipper Tom Franklin stepped up to smash home the spot kick.

The game again turned within minutes when Netherbury lost Nathan Goldstone as he received a second yellow card for pulling back Whitefield, leaving them with ten men.

Despite battling on, it wasn’t long before they conceded the vital third goal as Simon Cherry rose to head home Thompson’s corner with 20 minutes remaining.

All league matches were postponed due to waterlogged pitches at the weekend.
