PREMIER Division leaders Perry Street underlined their improved form by beating Lyme Regis Reserves 2-1, writes Ian Hallett.

Brad Cleal and Sam Johnson were on target for the winners who gained revenge for a defeat earlier in the season against the same opponents to extend their unbeaten league run to six.

West & Middle Chinnock, who have three games in hand, remain four points adrift of the leaders following a 4-2 victory at Beaminster.

Liam Samways, George Trott, Connor Fletcher and Nick Bond hit a goal apiece for the visitors.

While Barrington and Winsham United were involved in cup action, Millwey Rise grabbed the opportunity to move to the top of the Division One table with a 4-1 home triumph over Chard United.

Sam Dibling netted twice for the Devonians whose total was completed with a goal each from Keith Forsey and Nathan Wormersley.

Kamil Wilk struck a consolation effort for United who will soon be without the services of Stuart Packer as the striker wishes to return to his former club Thorncombe.

In Division Two, Crewkerne Rangers completed a league double over visitors Uplyme by winning 5-2.

Simon Denslow struck twice for the hosts who also had James Martin, Harvey Saunders and Jack Male getting their names on the scoresheet. Jake Bearpark and James Beddows were the Uplyme marksmen.

Bottom club Ilminster Town A put in one of their best performances of the season as they went down by the odd goal in three at Combe A.

An own goal and a Wayne Long strike had put the home side 2-0 ahead at the interval.

When Paul Retter reduced the arrears in the second half, the Blues thought they were in with a great chance of getting at least a share of the spoils. But Combe held out for only their second maximum points of the season.

Barrington reserves failed in their bid to go to the top of the Division Three table when they suffered a 4-1 defeat at Thorncombe reserves.

Liam Whitworth, Karl Smith, Ricky Anderson and James Johnson were on target for the Thorns, while Jake Woodard was the losers’ lone scorer.

With only one defeat from their last five outings, Chard United reserves have steadily moved up the ladder and they consolidated third place with 4-1 verdict at South Petherton reserves.

A Liam Male hat-trick and a Jamie Brown single saw Chard leading by four goals at the half-way stage, and even when Dom Muggeridge pulled a goal back after the break, the winners never looked as if they would take less than the three points.

Following a disappointing start to the current campaign which saw them pick up just one point from their opening four games, Chard Rangers kept their first clean sheet on Saturday in a 3-0 win at home to Millwey Rise reserves.

Max Patch gave Rangers a half time lead and that was increased after the turn around by goals from Kevin Bird and John Duffy.

The winners move above their opponents to leave them in the basement position.

Division Four’s top scorer, Ashley Cooper, added a further four goals to his tally as Merriott Rovers beat Chard Rangers reserves 10-2.

Barry Wills and Sam Rowswell bagged two goals each in the victory that was completed by singles from Josh Thomason and Mark Tweedie. Rangers replied through Matt Gaylard and Scott Marshall.

Winsham United reserves came up against a much-changed side from the one they had beaten 6-1 earlier in the season when they visited Drimpton reserves.

On the latest occasion Drimpton were 4-1 winners thanks to two goals each by Ben Dickinson and Josh Betts. United’s scorer was Willis Lawrence.

The Coronation Cup final, due to be held at Millwey Rise on December 27, will feature Combe reserves and Shepton Beauchamp.

Combe won their semi-final 2-0 at home to South Petherton courtesy of goals from Sam McCaffrey and Steve Every.

Ex-Crewkerne Town player Aaron Sweet netted the deciding goal in a 2-1 win to put Shepton Beauchamp through against his former club.

Mike McCormack had given Crewkerne an early lead before Dougie Whitefield brought the scores level minutes later.

Play was evenly contested for the remainder of the game until Sweet broke the deadlock late on.

Barrington took their winning run to 12 in all competitions as they dumped Forton Rangers out of the Division One Cup at the semi-final stage by hitting seven goals without reply.

Andy Whitefield led the scoring spree with a hat-trick and he was ably assisted by James Thompson, Ian Masters Mike Whitefield and Thomas Perry who bagged a goal apiece.

Barrington’s opponents in the final will be Netherbury after they beat Winsham United 3-0 with goals from John Kingston (2) and Tom Franklin.

Shepton Beauchamp reserves made it a club double by reaching the final of the John Fowler Cup with a 4-2 success at Dowlish & Donyatt.

Jordan Brain (2), Alex Pitman and Steve Bennett found the net for the winners who were two goals up inside the opening minute.

Jon Bartlett and Luke Dobson were on target for Dowlish, who had themselves to blame as they dominated for much of the match and also failed to score from the penalty spot on two occasions.

Hawkchurch booked the other final slot as they claimed their first away win of the season in a narrow 4-3 triumph at Kingsbury.

A Luke Harding double and a goal by Josh Short had given the Hawks a commanding lead at the halfway stage, but second half strikes by Ben Norman, Jake Russell and Shane Reeks brought the scores level to set up a nail-biting finale.

Jack Larcombe became the visitors’ hero when he struck the deciding goal with less than five minutes left on the clock.
