FIVE students at Chard Martial Arts Club took part in a four- hour kenpo grading to achieve their 1st Dan black belts.

Instructor Neil Hazell, a 6th Dan black belt, said: “This was a unique day and probably will not be seen again.

“It has taken 30 years to bring about a grading of this number of black belts at one time.

“The test is the hardest in the system and takes years of training and dedication too reach this standard.”

Other students also took lower belt grading – James Taylor brown 3rd kyu, Hayley Harris orange 7 kyu, Andy Howard purple 6th kyu, Warren Eaton orange 7 kyu, and Joel Ingerfield senior purple 6th kyu.

Hazell added: “I would like to thank the great contributions of Jonathan Hodgson 4th Dan, Steve Watts 5th Dan, Frank Ellull 4th Dan,Jamie Graves 3rd Dan and Dan Anderson 3rd Dan for all ther dedication and support to the club.”
