THE Isle was up and coloured when Ilminster AA members fished round three of the V.E.S. Precision league on Sunday.

Good weights were predicted but didn’t materialise.

However it was a very close match with everyone getting plenty of bites from small fish and the odd chub.

Steve Hurford did well on peg 120 to win his first-ever match with 7lb 4oz. Hurford caught a big chub and some smaller fish on the tip. Martin Heard was second with an all-small fish catch from peg 125 and Rob Cox was third with 4lb 13oz from peg 129. He had a decent chub plus some roach on the pole.

Frank Woodard and Neil Dring jointly won the top section with 4lb 7oz and Bruce Hunt won the bottom section with 4lb 6oz.

After three matches – and dropping the worst result – Heard leads with two points followed by Woodard, Field and Cox who are all on four.

There is a Royal Oak match next Sunday and the draw is at the pub between 8.30am and 9am.

Result: 1 Steve Hurford (Ilminster) 7lb 4oz, 2 Martin Heard (Tiverton) 5lb 8oz, 3 Rob Cox (Ilminster) 4lb 13oz.

Sections: A - Frank Woodard and Neil Dring (both Ilminster) 4lb 7oz; B - Bruce Hunt (Tiverton) 4lb 6oz.
