ILMINSTER Town are looking for a new manager after Matt Hughes resigned for ‘family reasons’.

Hughes only took over in the summer, and apart from pre-season training was in charge of just one friendly.

He said: “Obviously I’m very disappointed to have handed in my resignation. It’s nothing to do with football. Everything had been going well in pre-season.

“Because of the situation I just would not have been able to devote the time needed and it would have been unfair to the club.

“What I will say is that whoever does replace me will be luck to take over such a wonderful club.

“I’m still keen to manage at senior level in the future but unfortunately it’s just not feasible at the moment.”

Chairman and former manager Darren Manley will take charge of the first team for the time being and will be on the touchline for Saturday’s Somerset league opener at Berrow.

But he has been busy looking for a replacement and is hopeful of appointing a new manager shortly.

Manley said: “It’s not an ideal situation but obviously Matt’s family comes first.

“I have told him that if his situation changes in the future the door is always open.”

The Blues completed their pre-season programme with a 1-1 draw at Sherborne reserves on Saturday.

They have made three addition to the squad during the summer.

Brad Miles and Josh Parsons have joined from Crewkerne while Alistair Boyer has signed from Bedminster.
