AN Ilminster men’s triple has stormed through to the national finals at Leamington Spa next month.

Matt Hamilton, Steve Turner and Louis Ridout earned their place with massive 22-4 victory over a Street triple skipped by J Murphy.

All the men’s Somerset league teams were back in action last week with the A team winning 67-40 at Knowle and collecting 11 of the 12 points in the process The victory lifts Ilminster into second place in the Premier 1.

Scores: Will Anderson, Paul Denslow, Jason Miles and Mark Denslow 25, I Bell 9; Matt Hamilton, Alan Holt, Neil Rowe and Louis Ridout 17, P Hughes 17; Kevin Hamilton, Chris Robinson, Bev Brister and Peter Mattravers 25, R Sawyer 14.

The B team went back to the top of South West 1 with a convincing win at home to North Petherton B by 83 shots to 45. Ilminster gained a maximum 12 Points.

Scores: Andy Williams, Dave Collins, Barry Sims and Rowland Garland 23, J Swayne 13; Des Maull, Ken Parker, Phil Cox and John Ridout 32, G Ovens 13; Gerry Morris, Dave Crouch, John Osborne and Eric Keitch 28, T Russell 19.

Ilminster C were unable to ensure a trio of victories after a 64-57 defeat by Watchet B, also in South West 1.

Scores: Mark Davies, John Mitchell, Roger Lench and David Pugh 24, C Braford 21; Roy Orme, John Wells, Dave Hall and Briane Davies 17, R Somerfield 23; Dean Patmore, Steve Webster, Sam Webster and Peter Patmore 16, D Lynam 20.

Last Thursday Ilminster Men played the last of this season’s Two Counties fixtures with a home match against Crewkerne.

They won three of the four rinks and by 82 shots to 64.

The ladies lost 68-48 to Ashcombe Park of Weston-super-Mare in the quarter-finals of the Fear Cup.
