THERE were some prodigious scores when 34 Windwhistle Seniors took part in a 4Ball Better Ball competition in benign conditions last Monday.

Most teams scored in excess of 40 points, but way ahead of the field were Jerry Stephens and Mike Mosser who managed a score of 12 under par 48 points.

Sides led by John Wallis and Brian Anderson both recorded 45 points.

Result: 1 Jerry Stephens & Mike Mosser 48pts; 2 Brian Anderson & Richard Hill 45pts; 3 John Wallis & John Pearce 45pts; 4 Alan Chance & Danny Dowell 42pts.

The Captain held his annual Charity BBQ tournament on Wednesday.

A full turnout competed in a four man team competition two playing medal and two playing Stableford with the winner being decided by the difference between the two.

In an exciting finish, two teams tied with 15 points, with the quartet led by Ted Bryden being declared the winner on the back 9.

Result: 1 Ted Bryden, Norman Markby, Alan Davis & Barry Singleton (59-44=15); 2 Ian Fielder, Alan Teasedale, Nobby Hodder & Nick George (63-48=15).

Captain Alan Davis thanked the club for all their support and announced that he had raised a further £130 for his charity, Prostate Cancer UK.

The Seniors match team travelled to Wiltshire on Thursday to be entertained by Rushmore, in search of their first success against a powerful team.

The captain led by example in game 1 as he and his partner overcame the Rushmore captain by one hole in a tight match.

However, this advantage rapidly disappeared as the following five games all went in favour of the home side, resulting in a 5-1 defeat for Windwhistle.

Results: Alan Davis & Roger Stone won by 1 hole; Barrie Heath & Paul England lost by 5 & 4; Alan Chance & Mike Dawson lost by 6 & 5; Mike Light & Barry Singleton lost by 5 & 4; Keith Potter & Nobby Hodder lost by 1 hole; Stuart Pope & Alan Dowley lost by 6 & 4.

The Seniors finished their week on Friday with a ‘waltz’ competition.

Eight teams of three took part on a humid day with a slight drizzle which appeared to effect the participants as only two teams managed a par score of 72, and only six points separated the entire field.

Result: 1 Ted Bryden, Bob White & Brian Anderson 72pts; 2 John Wallis, Nobby Hodder & John Lyford 72pts.
