HOLYROOD Academy, in partnership with Chard CC, played host to the annual primary schools tournament at the club’s ground.

The competition attracted a large entry, with 14 teams playing a 26 games of cricket.

A total of 112 girls and boys participated following work in schools with the Chance2Shine cricket programme. The event was held in conjunction with National Cricket Day.

Schools taking were Ashill, Avishayes, Buckland, Manor Court, Redstart, Tatworth and Chard. Six students from Holyrood assisted at the event by umpiring and scoring the games.

School sports co-ordinator, Jason Hedaux, said: “I was particularly pleased with the take-up for this event – encouraging competition among children is a high priority for the Government and a focus for our work.

“It was a true community effort bringing together the local cricket club, primary and secondary schools.”
